Concrete Counterfactual Tests for Process Tracing: Defending an Interventionist Potential Outcomes Framework

چکیده
This article uses the interventionist theory of causation, a counterfactual taken from philosophy science, to strengthen causal analysis in process tracing research. Causal claims are re-expressed terms so-called hypothetical interventions, and concrete evidential tests proposed which shown corroborate claims. In particular, three steps prescribed for an investigation, each step turn is make more robust, amongst others by disambiguating clarifying or strengthening existing methodological advice on analysis. The article's then illustrated using example, Haggard Kaufman's Argentinian transition democracy. It that interventionism could have strengthened authors’ conclusions. concludes with short Bayesian its key proposals.
